Common industry questions

Below are common questions about selling, valuing and acquiring businesses across different industries. Our responses reflect real mid-market transaction experience and sector-specific expertise.

Why does industry expertise matter when selling a business?

Industry expertise shapes how a business is positioned, valued and marketed. Each sector has distinct benchmarks, buyer profiles and regulatory considerations. Understanding these nuances allows advisors to anticipate objections, reduce risk and create competitive tension to maximise value.

Which industries are currently attracting buyer demand?

Buyer demand shifts with economic cycles and capital availability. Sectors with strong recurring revenue, defensible market positions and scalable operations tend to attract sustained interest from private equity and strategic acquirers across Australia and offshore.

How does Nash Advisory match buyers and sellers?

We combine sector knowledge with access to domestic and international capital. By understanding both the commercial drivers of your industry and investor appetite, we run a structured, competitive process designed to identify aligned buyers and optimise transaction outcomes.

Executing a successful business transaction starts with following a tried and tested sales process. Learn more about our proven blueprint by downloading our transaction document pack.

What role does cross-border M&A play in industry deals?

Cross-border M&A expands the buyer pool and can significantly increase competitive tension. Where industry dynamics align, international buyers may offer strategic premiums, particularly in sectors with export exposure, intellectual property or consolidation opportunities.

Our partnership with REACH gives us access to a sophisticated network of sector and subsector experts and local market connoisseurs across 30 countries.

What size businesses does Nash typically advise?

We specialise in mid-market transactions, typically advising businesses with enterprise values between $5M and $100M. Our focus is on privately owned and founder-led companies seeking full or partial sales, acquisitions or capital partnerships.

How is a business valued in my industry?

There are a several ways to determine the value of a business. Here, we will focus on the multiples approach, which follows two steps:Take a simple measurement such as revenue or EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization).
